Additional gateway fees may apply depending on your Cybersource agreement. | Flat-rate pricing: 2.9% + 30¢ down to 2.15% + 30¢ depending on plan, per Shopify’s pricing page. No added gateway fee. |

Quick recap of Finix vs Shopify Payments
The biggest difference isn't the advertised processing rate. It's how payments are priced, supported, and managed as your business grows. Because Shopify applies its own third-party gateway fee when you use a processor other than Shopify Payments, the right choice depends on your transaction volume, average order value, and long-term payment strategy.
How it works
Switch your payment processor without switching your ecommerce platform. Finix is built so you can move from application to processing without a drawn-out integration.
Finix integration requirements
Finix connects to Shopify through Cybersource rather than a native Shopify plugin.
Payment gateway
Routed through a Cybersource Gateway integration, set up in your Finix Dashboard and the Cybersource app on the Shopify App Store.
Code changes
None. Setup happens in Shopify’s admin (Payments tab) and the Finix Dashboard.
Composer install
None
Developer needed
Most businesses can complete setup without a developer.
Why merchants switch to Finix
Pain points | Finix Solution |
|---|---|
Shopify Payments’ flat-rate pricing (2.9% + 30¢ down to 2.15% + 30¢ depending on plan, per Shopify’s pricing page) can cost more than interchange-plus pricing once a business processes consistent volume. The gap tends to widen as sales grow. | Finix prices through interchange-plus rather than a blended flat rate. Many growing businesses find this can reduce total processing cost at higher volumes. Any comparison should also include Shopify's third-party transaction fee, which applies when using payment processors other than Shopify Payments. |
Some merchants report Shopify Payments account holds and reviews freezing payouts unexpectedly, including during high-volume periods, based on Shopify Community forum discussions and merchant reports. | Finix’s dispute and account management tools are built to keep merchants informed through the review process, so payouts and cash flow are easier to plan around as the business grows. |
Shopify routes most Basic, Shopify, and Advanced plan merchants to AI chatbot support first, with live human support largely reserved for Shopify Plus merchants, following Shopify’s 2023 support restructuring. Trustpilot shows a 1.5/5 rating as of July 2026, with recurring complaints about support and payout access. | Dedicated human support is included with your Finix account, so you have a direct point of contact when payment questions arise. |

Frequently asked questions about Finix for Shopify.
Yes. Finix connects to Shopify through a Cybersource Gateway integration, so your storefront, theme, products, and checkout flow stay the same. You’re changing how payments are processed, not your platform.
Setting up Finix means disabling Shopify Payments and making Finix, via Cybersource, your active payment gateway. They don’t run side by side. Your store, products, checkout, and customer data stay unchanged.
Most businesses can complete setup without a developer. Setup happens through the Cybersource app on the Shopify App Store and Shopify’s own Payments settings, without custom code. Eligibility is gated, though: you need a Finix Direct Merchant account and a US-based Shopify account, and someone on your team needs to complete Shopify’s onboarding and KYC steps and accept the Cybersource terms.
Nothing changes. Order history, product listings, and customer data live in Shopify regardless of which payment gateway is active. Switching to Finix only changes how new transactions are processed.
Yes. Both are supported through the Cybersource gateway integration and can be activated in Shopify’s checkout settings once your Finix and Cybersource accounts are connected.
Setup time depends on how quickly your Finix Direct Merchant account and Cybersource Gateway integration are approved, and how quickly your Shopify account completes onboarding and KYC. Finix does not publish a fixed setup timeline for this integration.
