Finix vs. BigCommerce Payments
Finix | BigCommerce Payments | |
|---|---|---|
Pricing model | Interchange-plus pricing through the Cybersource gateway, tied to actual card costs. Additional gateway fees may apply. | Reported around 2.59% + $0.49 down to 1.99% + $0.49 depending on plan tier (figures vary by source; confirm the current rate directly with BigCommerce). Exempt from the Open Payment Provider Fee as an Embedded Payment Provider. |
Payout timing | Configured during onboarding with your Finix team. | Payout timing isn't publicly documented by BigCommerce. |
Account holds and disputes | Dedicated account support to work through disputes and holds. | No BigCommerce-Payments-specific hold policy confirmed publicly. Some merchants report billing and account-access issues in third-party reviews, based on cardpaymentoptions.com and other merchant review sites. |
Payment methods | Cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay confirmed via the Cybersource v2 integration. | Cards, PayPal, Venmo, PayPal Pay Later, Klarna, Afterpay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay, per BigCommerce's own product page. |
Merchant account | Individual merchant account (Direct Merchant), per Finix's own account setup guidance. | BigCommerce doesn't publicly describe its merchant account and underwriting model. |
Support model | Human account support, not a ticket queue. | Mixed to negative third-party reviews (1.7/5 on PissedConsumer, 1.9/5 on Sitejabber, as of July 2026), with recurring complaints about slow support response and refund handling. Some enterprise-tier merchants report better service. |
Quick recap of Finix vs BigCommerce Payments
BigCommerce’s newest and most material difference is its fee structure. Since June 1, 2026, BigCommerce charges an Open Payment Provider Fee on any gateway outside its Embedded Payment Providers list, and Cybersource isn’t on that list. This fee stacks on top of Cybersource’s gateway fee and Finix’s interchange-plus pricing, so merchants should model total cost before switching.
How it works
Switch your payment processor without switching your ecommerce platform. Finix is built so you can move from application to processing without a drawn-out integration.
What this integration requires
Finix connects to BigCommerce through Cybersource rather than a native BigCommerce integration, so setup happens through the BigCommerce App Marketplace.
Payment gateway
Routed through a Cybersource Gateway integration, connected via OAuth between BigCommerce and the Cybersource Business Center.
Code changes
None. Setup happens in BigCommerce’s admin (Store Setup → Payments) and the Cybersource Business Center.
Command-line or Composer install
None.
Developer needed
No. Most businesses can complete setup without a developer. The connection is handled through BigCommerce settings rather than custom code.
Why merchants switch to Finix
Pain point | Finix solution |
|---|---|
Starting June 1, 2026, BigCommerce charges an Open Payment Provider Fee (2% on Core, 1% on Growth, 0.6% on Scale) on orders processed through any gateway outside its Embedded Payment Providers list, and Cybersource is not on that list. BigCommerce Payments’ own reported card rates run from roughly 2.59% + $0.49 down to 1.99% + $0.49 depending on plan. | Finix prices through interchange-plus rather than a blended flat rate, which many growing businesses find can lower cost at higher volumes. Merchants should weigh this against BigCommerce’s new Open Payment Provider Fee, which applies to Finix’s Cybersource-routed transactions the same way it applies to any other outside gateway. |
BigCommerce merchants report recurring customer service complaints, including slow response times and difficulty reaching a live representative, reflected in third-party review sites (1.7/5 on PissedConsumer, 1.9/5 on Sitejabber, as of July 2026). | Dedicated human support is included with your Finix account, so you have a direct point of contact when payment questions arise. |
General account-management complaints, including billing surprises and difficulty resolving payment and account issues, appear in third-party reviews of BigCommerce, based on cardpaymentoptions.com and other merchant review sites. | Finix account management runs through the Finix Dashboard directly, giving merchants one place for payments, disputes, and account status, backed by Finix’s own support team. |

Frequently asked questions
Yes. Finix connects to BigCommerce through a Cybersource Gateway integration, so your storefront, theme, products, and checkout flow stay the same. You’re changing how payments are processed, not your platform.
Setting up Finix means disabling BigCommerce Payments and making Finix, via Cybersource, your active payment gateway. They don’t run side by side. Your store, products, checkout, and customer data stay unchanged.
Most businesses can complete setup without a developer. BigCommerce connects to Cybersource via OAuth, so there’s no manual API key entry. Your store does need Optimized One Page Checkout enabled, which is a settings toggle in your BigCommerce admin, not custom development.
Nothing changes. Order history, product listings, and customer data live in BigCommerce regardless of which payment gateway is active. Switching to Finix only changes how new transactions are processed.
Yes. Both are confirmed for the Cybersource v2 integration and can be activated in your BigCommerce Cybersource settings once your Finix and Cybersource accounts are connected.
It depends on your volume, average order value, and plan. Finix’s interchange-plus pricing can outperform BigCommerce Payments’ flat rate at higher volumes, but BigCommerce’s Open Payment Provider Fee (in effect since June 1, 2026) applies to Cybersource-routed transactions since Cybersource isn’t on BigCommerce’s Embedded Payment Providers list. Model your total cost, including that fee, before switching.
